Drogheda United F.C. is one of the ten competitors that go head-to-head against each other in the League of Ireland First Division- the second-tier football competition in the country. It was formed in 1919, but it tasted major victory for the first time when it became the champion of the League of Ireland Cup in 1984. It went on to add the League of Ireland Premier Division title, the League of Ireland First Division title, the FAI Cup and more to its name. Declan O'Brien, Gavin Brennan, Brian Shelley are few of the stalwart players who have played for this club in the past. The club is based in the city of Drogheda and it plays its home games at the United Park.
