British alternative music is reborn through the Oxford outfit Stornoway. Formed in 2006, this indie-alternative band usually appears in a six-piece form, sometimes appearing with or without a violinist and trumpeter. Stornoway blends stringed sounds with typical indie rock instruments, bringing an ethereal softness to its contemplative, soulful rock. The band's debut album, The Beachcomber's Windowsill, landed on the UK pop charts after its release in 2010. The album follows a great amount of popular acclaim for the band, as well as onstage appearances with such artists as Jay-Z, Norah Jones and Sting.
