Best-known as the principal songwriter for the heavy metal band X Japan, Yoshiki is a Japanese artist who blends the line between J-rock and contemporary classical music with his solo material. As his band was rising to recognition in the burgeoning metal scene of Japan, he released his debut solo album, a classical effort titled Eternal Melody, in 1993. Though the record contrasted heavily to the visual kei movement he was helping to build, the album earned him a a diverse international following. Yoshiki continues to release classically-minded J-rock under his own name, as well as with his other solo project Violet UK.
