The English outfit The Cribs is one of those bands that, despite immense talent and a bold sound, has managed to stay relatively hidden in the underground music scene. Since the band was formed in 2001 by a set of twins and their younger brother, the dynamics of the band has remained relatively the same, with the exception of former The Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr's three years stint with The Cribs from 2008 to 2011. Having evaded the Top 40 radio station lists and the commercialization of its post punk music, the Cribs has maintained its indie, lo-fi garage punk sound and earned a reputation and home in the subterraneal music scene. The band's brush with mainstream success came in 2007 with the release of its third album, Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever on Warner Bros. Records and a slot at that year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Despite its introduction to commercial acclaim, the band leaned away with irreverent attitudes and, still signed to its independent London-based label Witchita Records back home, continued on to make music nearly antipodal to what is expected by the general public.
