Founded in Boston The Ascetic Junkies is an indie band that creates a folky mix of pop tunes. Now based in Portland, OR the duo consists of the male-female co-vocalist pair Kali Giaritta and Matt Harmon, who both attempted to front rock bands before teaming up in 2007. With elements of Americana, noise and psychedelic music sewn throughout its music, The Ascetic Junkies released its debut album One shoe Over the Cuckoo's Nest, in 2008. The band's sweet fusion of bluegrass and rock music has resonated well in the Portland indie scene, particularly after its sophomore 2010 sophomore album, This Cage Has No Bottom.
