Peter McLaughlin is an acclaimed acoustic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, performer, recording artist, and music instructor based in Tucson, Arizona. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1955, he grew up in a musical family; his father played guitar and banjo, his mother played piano and bass, and his younger brother, David, also became a significant musical influence. Peter received his first guitar in 1963 and was inspired by live performances from legends like Doc Watson and Charlie Byrd. Throughout his career, Peter has played many genres and styles, specializing in acoustic flatpicking and fingerpicking techniques. He has toured and recorded with various artists and bands, including Chris Brashear, Todd Phillips, Laurie Lewis, Tom Rozum, Jody Stecher, Perfect Strangers, The Sonoran Dogs, Junior Brown, Flying South, Titan Valley Warheads, and The John Coinman Band. In 1988, Peter won the National Flatpick Guitar Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, after securing second place in 1986. He also won the Telluride Bluegrass Guitar Championship in 1988 and 1991. In 2013, he was inducted into the Tucson Musicians Museum, recognizing his contributions to the local music scene. Peter continues to inspire audiences with his exceptional guitar skills and dedication to acoustic music.
