Growing up on the streets of New York's Lower East Side left a strong impression in Ray Lugo's young mind. Exposed to the multifaceted music scene that New York is notorious for helped shape Lugo's musical understanding and plant within him a strong adherence to Afrobeat rhythms and various world music modal changes. Since the mid-1990s, Rugo has explored a number of music styles including punk and funk, in addition to various world music niche genres, and has always managed to maintain a high level of professional working musician ethos in all of his work that has won him over swaths of dedicated fans.
