Courtney Pine

Courtney Pine is a renowned British jazz musician. Pine began his musical education by studying the clarinet, although now he is a well-versed multi-instrumentalist, playing also the flute, keyboard and, most notably, the saxophone. His 1986 debut album Journey to the Urge Within saw a groundbreaking foray into the British Top 40, at the time a singular achievement for any strictly jazz album. Pine has since maintained his position as a pioneering artist, also breaking into the American charts and receiving royal honors from the British court. His more recent music has broken boundaries, integrating drum and bass and more contemporary styles into his traditional jazz music.
