Funk's heyday was sometime in the 1970s. Since then, there have been very few bands who've been dedicated enough to pursue the formidable genre. It takes a certain amount of gumption to get up on stage and play with the intense level of tenacity that's need for funk. One of the few modern acts that's not afraid of pushing funk's boundaries is the Michigan-based band Nomo. Since the early 2000s the group has blended elements of funk style horns, afro-beat rhythms and electronic music to create a distinctive sound that is unmistakable.
