The Mastersons is an indie rock duo composed of husband and wife, Chris Masterson and Eleanor Whitmore. Since both halves of the band played with several different ensembles before uniting, The Mastersons' is not a typical couple band that sings about its passion-kindled romance. The duo's chemistry is found in its harmonies and not its lyrics, which are often dark and packed on top of buoyant melodies. The Mastersons released its debut album Birds Fly South, in 2012 with an alternative rock sound that can be attributed to both Whitmore's and Masterson's Texas roots.
