Ohio indie rock band Lovedrug isn't so much a reference to the addiction to love, as it a reference to lead singer Michael Shephard's return to music school; his love of music "drug" him back after initially leaving for film school. Starting in 2001, the band made modest moves towards capturing a loyal audience, but it wasn't until 2004 that they built more serious momentum and were signed to Columbia Records. The band has a particular knack for creating emotionally resonant pop songs with densely layered instrumentation, and their music often feels as crushing as it uplifting.
