Comprised of Nick Gaffaney and Aaron Tokona, two individuals who believe in the stripped down power of rock n' roll, the Christchurch, New Zealand-based duo Cairo Knife Fight makes a style of music that's difficult not to find enjoyment in. With the majority of songs consisting of guitar, drums and vocals, the band's music isn't laden with glistening production or dense layers of instrumental accompaniment, but both Gaffaney and Tokona play their instruments and sing with such conviction that Cairo Knife Fight's music is able to stand alone. The group released its debut EP in 2011, and after serving as the opening act during a Foo Fighters/Tenacious D joint New Zealand tour, Cairo Knife Fight managed to hold its own and attract a good deal of new listeners after it was thrust into the cultural spotlight.
