Loud, bratty and over-the-top, The Grannies revel in representing the more showy side of the punk rock spectrum. Formed in San Francisco circa 1999, the band established itself in the city's crowded punk community with its unhinged live performances--which are often equal parts show and spectacle thanks to the use of costumes and lead singer Special Edna's in-your-face style. The Grannies has recently started to develop a following outside of the Bay Area, and even lined up an appearance at the South By Southwest music showcase in Austin, Texas in 2012.
