Modern Talking was a synthpop duo from Germany that existed from 1983-1987 and from 1989-2003. It consisted of the band members Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders and had a number of hit singles that reached the top 5 in many countries. The songs, basically sung in English, were often very simple and artless, but nevertheless very catchy and obviously appealing to many of their fans. One of the markets where Modern Talking became most successful was Russia, where in 1986 they were the first western band to have records officially sold in the Soviet Union.
