The Black and White Years is an indie art rock band from Austin, Texas that was discovered by Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads in 2007 at Austin's world-renowned music festival South by Southwest. Since then, The Black and White Years has seen a marked increase in popularity at the many festivals the band has been performing at over the last several years. The band managed to make it onto national radio stations with its breakout single "Power to Change," which earned The Black and White Years the "Song of the Year" award at the 2009 Austin Music Awards.
