About

While it might seem odd at first blush to see a reggae legend and one of the prominent figures of the 1990s Bay Area pop punk movement collaborating with one another, the partnership isn't actually all that out of left field after all. TIm Armstrong, of Rancid fame, grew up a fan of Jimmy Cliff and other reggae stalwarts, using their influence to inspire his future projects. Rancid has incorporated more and more reggae and ska elements throughout its career, and Armstrong himself created Hellcat Records to help showcase many artists looking to uphold the traditions of the popular Jamaican genre. Cliff and Armstrong's union premiered with their well-received cover of The Clash's "Guns of Brixton," which came with plans to collaborate on an EP or full-length of original material soon after.
