Indeed, during the semi-final of the Coupe de France between Bastia and l'Olympique de Marseille, a temporary stand collapsed. Eighteen people died and 2357 were injured. The final was never played and since then, many French clubs don't play on that day out of respect for the victims. After several years in League 2, Bastia moved to League 1 in 2012 . Many notable players , such as Mickaël Landreau, Lilian Laslandes, Jérôme Rothen, Brandão, and Sebastien Squillaci, were part of the club at some point in their careers. The principal color of the jersey is blue and the team is also known by nicknames, Lioni di Furiani, and I turchini.
