Drawing on the vast tradition of Klezmer music and the Yiddish language, The Klezmatics is constantly referred to as the leading Yiddish-American roots band. Based out of New York, the band formed in 1986 and though it has altered its lineup slightly since then, it still retains the same core group of members. While the band bases its style on traditional Klezmer, it also incorporates more contemporary elements and occasional collaborates with other cultural musicians (including gypsies, Moroccans and most notably Palestinian singer Simon Shaheen), demonstrating the band's diversity and making for a unique and modern take on Yiddish music.
