Jean-Michel Pilc

Born in Paris, but now based out of New York, Jean-Michel Pilc is a self-taught jazz pianist who has established himself at the forefront of the modern jazz scene. Described by critics as the jazz equivalent of a cubist painter with fully formed technique, creative chord substitutions and perfect precision, Pilc is best known for his free improvisation, both solo and with a backing band. Since releasing his debut album in 1989, Pilc has since appeared as a co-leader on albums with David Liebman, Ari Hoenig and several other notable musicians, as well as released an impressive catalogue of solo albums.
