Brujeria emerged out of Los Angeles with an extreme metal sound. Founded in 1989, the band has cultivated a massive following with its Spanish language songs and anti-American stance. Utilizing themes of Satanism, sex, narcotics smuggling and immigration, the band blends an aggressive death metal and grindcore sound with politically-driven lyrics. Brujeria released its debut album Matando Gueros, on Roadrunner in 1993, immediately attracting attention and censorship -- the album was banned in various stores because of its violent cover art, but the resulting effects only helped the band. Brujeria quickly found a devout following in the international metal community and has only expanded its audiences ever since.
