The Cairo Gang

The Cairo Gang is a Chicago-based alternative folk act that released its self titled debut LP in 2006. The group was named after a group of British intelligence agents dubbed The Cairo Gang who were sent into Dublin during the Irish War of Independence to conduct covert operations against members of the Irish Republican Army. By interjecting nontraditional musical elements--like chamber pop instrumental arrangements and subtlety melodic rhythms flourishes--into the languid folk genre, The Cairo Gang manages to slyly add layers of interest to a tired style of music in a very unassuming way.
