Tyla Laura Seethal, known mononymously as Tyla, is a South African singer and songwriter born on January 30, 2002, in Edenvale, East Rand. Raised in Johannesburg, she rose to fame with her 2019 debut single "Getting Late," which led to a recording contract with Epic Records in 2021. Her international breakthrough came with the 2023 single "Water," which not only topped charts in several countries but also earned her the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. Her self-titled debut album, released in March 2024, was critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Tyla's music blends pop with amapiano, earning her the title "Queen of Popiano." She has garnered numerous awards, including multiple BET Awards and the Global Icon Award at the Metro FM Music Awards, and is celebrated as one of Africa's most influential emerging global pop stars.
