The Violet Lights is a rock duo based in Silverlake, CA that formed when Joel Nass and Amber Garvey left their hometown in Wisconsin without money or a plan to pursue a music career. In contemporary media fashion, the band chronicled its southern California escapades on a blog, complete with personal photos and videos, telling its intimate story to the online world. The Violet Lights considers the blog a complement to its 2011 EP Sex & Sound, a self-released and self-funded garage rock debut. Finding a fare amount of success online, where the band's EP was praised by its community of fans, the Violet Lights embarked on a North American tour late in 2011 that culminated at the 2012 South by Southwest Festival in Austin.
