Even though New York-based band The Cramps made a characteristic style of music referred to as psychobilly, the group managed to associate itself with the late-1970s punk movement and the scene at CBGB. With a knack for theatrics and showmanship, front man Lux Interior would play shows and give 110% of his energy to the performance, which occasionally entailed Interior climbing on speakers, rolling around on the stage and giving general disregard to the well-being of his body. Respected by the garage punk community, The Cramps stayed fairly active during its existence starting in 1976 by releasing a steady stream of albums and touring fairly regularly until 2009, when Interior died at the age of 62.
