Because of the vast number of recordings Lee Sklar has played bass on, nearly everyone who has listened to a good amount of rock and pop music has heard Sklar's playing. The studio musician who has gone on to contribute to over one thousand records had an interest in bass playing from a young age, and in the late 1960s, Sklar would enroll at California State University, Northridge to study music composition. Whilst at school he would meet singer/songwriter James Taylor, who asked Sklar to play bass with him in the studio and during live gigs. To the surprise of both musicians, Taylor's career took off, skyrocketing him into the limelight and also introducing Sklar to many as a talented bassist whose accomplished playing could be altered to play nearly any music style. With a roster that includes bass credits from a number of musicians and bands including Phil Collins, Hall & Oates, Reba McEntire and Rod Stewart, amongst many others, Sklar has proven himself over his decades long career to be a go-to bass player who can rise to the occasion and perform virtually anything that is asked of him.
