With the majority of its members being natives of Colombia, the New York-based group M.A.K.U. Sound System makes a style of music that's a unique byproduct of cultural clashes and interweavings. With a deep-rooted affinity for Latin rhythms, M.A.K.U. Sound System creates a distinctively modern style of music that crosses boundaries and jumps the hurdles of jazz, punk, folk and funk to create a rich sonic amalgamation that's unlike any material created by other bands on the music scene today. Founded in 2009, the group bolsters its sound by interjecting the bright sounds of a horn section into its instrumental fold to help create a characteristic sound that has won over listeners in North and South America.
