Attaining the nickname "dean of American composers" was no easy feat for Aaron Copland. He had to prove his worth as a prominent classical songwriter whose compositions were full of nationalistic references and instrumental prowess. His pieces are regarded with much national pride in America and even though his legacy is wholly engulfed in Americana traditions, composers overseas still respect the talented musician.
