After meeting at a concert of Niharika, a band of which Asheem was a member, Susmit and Asheem came together and quickly bonded over their mutual aspirations of creating a new sound, forming the basis of what is known today as Indian Ocean. After creating their unique musical styling consisting of a fusion of Rock and Indian Folk music, Indian Ocean went through troubled times, slowly modifying their sound to include more vocals. It wasn't until the SAHMAT New Years Eve show of 1997 where Indian Ocean really managed to get noticed, releasing a live album of their music which was unheard of for the genre at the time. Today, through the determination of the band, they have had continued success all over the world.
