Christoph Willibald Gluck was born to a modest family in Bavaria. At an early age he was exposed to the classical music culture and the metropolitan life style that accompanied it. Soon Gluck had ambitions of becoming a high profile composer who commanded symphonies and orchestras with an intuitive baton. When he started writing, audiences did not receive his work too well, so he decided to immigrate to Paris, where French opera was really starting to take off. After he wrote a few pieces, he was regarded with much laudation by the French public and soon he made a name for himself as one of the more prominent composers to have ever live.
