Alban Berg

Austrian musician and composer Alban Berg was born and trained in Vienna around the turn of the 20th century. His music is considered to be of the second Viennese school, along with Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern. A master of the 12-tone technique, Berg also applied Mahlerian Romanticism to his stylized and innovative compositions. He was a major contributor to Vienna's elite society during a cultural heyday in the city. His rich compositions were for a variety of instruments, including several operatic works.
