WIZO

WIZO, a German punk outfit from just outside of Stuttgart, has been together off and on since 1985. The band's songs have tackled a number of political and social issues over the years, albeit always with a sense of humor and refreshing lack of self-seriousness. WIZO's debut LP, entitled Für'n Arsch, was released in 1991 and helped the group establish itself within Germany's punk rock scene. It wouldn't be until a few years later, however, that Wizo would gain some more widespread recognition for its quirky deutschpunk style, aided by Fat Wreck Chords decision to re-release some of its albums in the US. WIZO broke up in 2005 but would later reunite in 2009. Lead vocalist and guitarist Axel Kurth remains the band's sole original member.
