Before George Michael would go on to enjoy a massively successful solo career, he was a member of Wham!, a purely pop-minded duo that produced some of the 1980s' most popular singles. Michael met Andrew Ridgeley, the group's only other member, while attending school. The two soon began playing music together and by 1981, Wham! had formed. With Michael taking on the majority of the writing, singing and production duties, the duo found success on the radio airwaves with unabashedly poppy singles such as "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Club Tropicana." Barely out of their teens by the time they'd become international superstars, Michael and Ridgeley maintained a flashy and fashion-oriented image that captured the over-the-top style of the mid-1980s perfectly. Wham! broke up in 1986, sparking the beginning of Michael's long-running solo career.
