Songs: Ohia was the recording project of American singer/songwriter Jason Molina. The Ohio-native musician actually grew up playing in metal bands around the Cleveland area before eventually moving onto the more stripped-down folk and indie rock he'd build his name upon. Molina first debuted his Songs: Ohia material in 1996 with the single "Nor Cease Thou Never Now." Though accompanying players and collaborators would come and go, Molina remained the only fixture of the project, causing most listeners to regard it as simply another name for his solo career. A melancholic feel and stark emotional reflections permeate the Songs: Ohia catalog, represented musically by sparse instrumentation with echoes of folk, classic rock, country and modern indie rock. In 2003, Molina officially ended Songs: Ohia, replacing it with his new project, Magnolia Electric Co.
