Known best for his regular claim of "I get no respect," Rodney Dangerfield (born Jacob Cohen) is a legend in the world of stand-up comedy. He was born on Long Island, where he began writing comedy at the age of just 15. By 20, Dangerfield was well on his way to earning a reputation for his own performances, though he eventually hit a career lull that lasted until he took up his stage persona. As Rodney Dangerfield, Cohen developed a comedic personality based around a hapless character who can't catch a break. Over the years, this character became unrecognizable from his own identity, as Dangerfield became massively successful not only for his stand-up work, but also for his roles in classic films such as Caddyshack and Back to School. He died in 2004 at the age of 82, but his comedic legacy will unquestionably continue to live on.
