Petra was a Christian rock band from Fort Wayne, Indiana that is generally considered to be one of the leading pioneers of several contemporary Christian music genres. Right from its formation in 1972, Petra successfully emulated many popular pop rock acts inside of a contemporary Christian musical paradigm. Over the course of the band's career, Petra released over 20 albums that earned its members several Grammys, amongst other prestigious awards. Although the most recent incarnation of the band retired in 2005, Petra's members from the 1980s decided to bring a version of the band back to life in 2010 and have been performing successfully ever since as Classic Petra.
