About

Pencey Prep was an emo band from Belleville, New Jersey that derived its name from the J.D. Salinger novel, The Catcher In The Rye. Created by ex-members from punk bands Sector 12 and Stick Figure Suicide, the band's lineup included lead singer and guitarist Frank Lero, keyboardist Shaun Simon, bassist John McQuire and drummer Tim Hagevik. Pencey Prep's only album Heartbreak in Stereo, was released in 2001 by Eyeball Records, and the band supported its record by playing shows with The Strokes, Nada Surf and A New Found Glory. Despite the album's success, the band broke up in 2002 when Lero left the band to join My Chemical Romance on guitar and backup vocals.
