Singer Mia Martini was born Domenica Bertè in Calabria, Italy. She released her first recordings under the name Mimi Bertè, including her 1963 debut album I Miei Baci Non Puoi Scordare/Lontani Dal Resto Del Mondo, but changed it to Mia Martini when she moved to Rome. Martini is most famous for her song "Piccolo Uomo," which was recorded in several languages. She participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in both 1977, when she placed 13th out of 18 for her performance of "Libera," and 1992, when she played fourth out of 23 for her rendition of "Rapsodia." She was found dead in her apartment near Milan in 1995, but is remembered through her extensive discography of two dozen studio albums and 20 compilation albums.
