Keith Whitley (1954-1989) was a country music singer/songwriter from Sandy Hook, Kentucky whose relatively short career on the mainstream country music scene continues to influence many of the genre's current singer/songwriters. Although Whitley's career in country music only lasted 6 years before his death in 1989, he was able to release several #1 country hits throughout the 1980s, making him one of country's most promising up and coming talents. Unfortunately, Keith Whitley's life was cut short by alcoholism, but his songs and influence still live on as some of the best country music has to offer.
