Kate & Anna McGarrigle was a folk singer/songwriter sister duo from Montreal, Canada that performed together for several decades until Kate tragically succumbed to cancer in 2010. The duo earned their first recording contract in 1974, and would go on to record 10 albums for over three decades. Their songs are mostly written in English, but many songs were written in French so as to represent the language and culture of the duo's home city. Kate & Anna McGarrigle are considered to be one of the most legendary French-Canadian folk acts, and several renowned artists across several different genres have covered many of the duos works.
