Jascha Heifetz

Jascha Heifetz (1901-1987) was a world-famous violinist from Lithuania who is regarded by many as one of the greatest violinists of all-time. Celebrated as a child prodigy during his youth in Europe and Russia, Heifetz made his premier in the United States after his family relocated there from Russia during the year of the October Revolution. His fame preceded him there, and at only the age of 16, Jascha Heifetz gave his first performance in America at Carnegie Hall. Following that historic performance, Heifetz continued to perform the standard violin repertoire to audiences who were amazed at the violinists technique and capacity for deep emotional expression on the instrument. His career as an internationally renowned violinist would continue for over half a century, and many of his performances and recordings are considered to be historic and some of the most revered instrumental performances of the 20th Century.
