Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

Like the fellow like-minded Welsh outfit Super Furry Animals, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci had a knack for creating psychedelic pop that could branch off in any number of unexpected directions. Formed in Carmarthen in 1991, the band's founding members all met one another while attending middle school. As the group began to bond over obscure music and started writing songs together, vocals would come in both English and its native Welsh--a practice that would remain throughout its career. Early albums, such as 1994's Tatay, showed off the band's lo-fi, ramshackle sound. Soon, however, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci was penning innovative, fully-formed songs that were just as admirable for their pure pop stylings as they were for their adventurously wide-eyed psychedelia. The group split in 2006, but remains an underground influence for emerging indie bands throughout the UK and beyond.
