About

Free was one of the plethora of blues-influenced hard rock bands to emerge from the UK in the late-1960s and early-1970s. The band is best known for its 1970 smash hit single "All Right Now," which is immediately identifiable for its well-known guitar riff. Free formed in 1968, while its members were still in their teens. Like groups such as Cream and Led Zeppelin, Free used blues music as a huge primary influence, re-framing it in the context of brawny rock and roll full of chugging riffs and memorable melodic hooks. The band broke up in 1973, prompting lead singer Paul Rodgers to go on to become the front man for the just forming hard rock group Bad Company.
