Frankie Ruiz

Frankie Ruiz (1958-1998) was a salsa singer from Patterson, New Jersey who grew to become one of Puerto Rico's most popular performers in the salsa genre. After moving with his parents to Puerto Rico as a child, Ruiz became enamored with the salsa form and worked very hard to launch a career for himself as a salsa performer. His youth and passionate demeanor combined to create a very popular style his fans called "Sensual Salsa," and Ruiz went on to release several hits in Puerto Rico during the 1980s. Unfortunately, Frankie Ruiz's career was cut tragically short by complications from the AIDS virus shortly after his final performance at Madison Square Garden in 1998.
