Fabrizio De André

Fabrizio De André (1940-1999) was a folk rock singer/songwriter from Genoa, Italy who is best known for his subversive songs that often explore the plight of those marginalized by contemporary society as well as the hypocrisies of the Catholic Church. Active as a recording artist in the early 1960s, De André released several critically acclaimed albums over the course of his decades-long career as one of Italy's most beloved contemporary poets. Despite passing away in 1999 after losing his battle with lung cancer, Fabrizio De André is still considered by many to be one of Italy's most important songwriters of the 20th Century.
