About

Ernest Tubb was an American honky tonk country singer from Texas. Earning a nickname of "The Texas Troubadour," he enjoyed a steady career that lasted nearly 50 years. As a child, Tubb was enamored with country music, resulting in his learning to play guitar, sing and yodel at a young age. By the late 1930s, he was in the midst of a recording contract for RCA, though he struggled to sell records or find a following early on. Soon, however, Tubb's vintage honky tonk stylings were becoming in demand and led to him hosting the first Grand Ole Opry in New York City in 1947. Over the following decades, he stayed true to his roots, never straying far from the classic honky tonk sound he held dear. In the 1960s, he maintained a television show called The Ernest Tubb Show and was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1965.
