Crass

Formed in 1977 in Essex, England, Crass was an anarcho-punk band that subscribed to an intensely dedicated DIY lifestyle that is rarely, if ever, seen these days. Like most punk rock bands of the time, the group was loud, brash and in-your-face musically, favoring confrontational energy over competent musicianship. The members of Crass all lived their lives with the anarchic spirit of their band, yet were highly intelligent and passionate about a number of societal problems throughout the UK at the time. The band's radical left-wing politics took up the majority of its lyrical content, as did jabs at the fickleness of bands in the punk rock community it was associated with. In the latter stages of Crass's seven year career, the group experimented with its sound, adopting elements of noise rock, improvisation and art punk, all of which helped seal its legacy as an influential entity for future bands of its ilk.
