Barış Manço

Barış Manço (1943-1999) was a rock singer/songwriter from Istanbul, Turkey that remains one of the country's most popular entertainers. Although Manço (also spelled Mancho) earned his first taste of international success with the release of his eponymous debut LP in 1976, the young songwriter was unsatisfied with its performance and was determined to try harder. The 1980s would prove to be a very successful decade for Manço, with several hits released that highlighted his diverse skills as a musician and songwriter, and by all accounts, significantly raised the songwriter's status as an internationally renowned Turkish musician. Although Barış Manço's life was tragically cut short by a heart attack in 1999, his influence still lives on as one of Turkey's more legendary rock stars.
