After her father passed away when she was only 14, Sophie Zelmani felt that writing songs helped her cope better with the loss. In 1995 she released her self-titled debut album, which earned her a Grammy Award for Best Newcomer. She has continued to release albums ever since, but due to shyness she seldom performs live.
