Julian Paul Schmit, known professionally as Schmyt, is a German singer and songwriter who transitioned from the band Rakede to a successful solo career. Born in Viersen and trained in classical music, Schmit played multiple instruments before studying jazz and pop in Arnhem. He joined Rakede in 2007, contributing to their early hits and collaborations until the band’s disbandment in 2020. Schmyt's solo career began with the debut single "Niemand" and was marked by the 2022 album Universum regelt. His music, blending elements of hip-hop, pop, and R&B, has earned him recognition and a contract with Universal Music Publishing. Notable works include the EP Gift and singles like "Taximann" and "Mach kaputt." Schmyt's lyrical influences span from Gottfried Benn to David Bowie, and his style has been described as part of the "New German Ballad" movement.
