The Seton Hall Pirates from South Orange, NJ play NCAA Division I sports within the Big East Conference. Some of the intercollegiate teams include men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer and swimming, but the women have a volleyball, tennis and softball team. The men's basketball team has advanced to the NCAA March Madness tournament nine different times and once reached the finals in 1989, under legendary coach P.J Carlesimo; the team then lost to the Michigan Wolverines in overtime.
